Executive Chairman of Google to give Lecture at Edinburgh International Television Festival

Eric Schmidt, who is the current executive chairman of search engine giant Google, has announced that he will be giving the MacTaggart Lecture at the Edinburgh International Television Festival in August.

He will discuss the continued expansion of the internet and will also talk about how the television industry can utilise and engage with new technologies.

The lecture will take place on the 26th August and Dr Schmidt commented on the lecture, stating “It’s a great honour to be invited to give the MacTaggart Lecture – the previous speakers are all incredibly impressive.

“I have always been a profound optimist about the potential for technology to improve people’s lives – though I am also a realist and understand it can be immensely disruptive in the process.

“So I look forward to discussing the opportunities and challenges ahead for the TV industry in Edinburgh.”
