Google May be Readying Pay by Phone System

Google are rumoured to be readying a new feature for their Android operating system that will allow people to process transactions without the need for a credit or debit card.

The near-field communications payment system is rumoured to be ready for rollout in New York and San Francisco, with Bloomberg citing two sources claiming it will be ready in around four months.

The system will reportedly use special cash registers and will allow users to pay for goods by waving a phone rather than by swiping a card.

Google’s Nexus S phone, which launched in December, is the first and only Android handset in the United States to include NFC capabilities. The company have been experimenting with the technology for a whil and it appears they are ready to roll with it.
