Google Receives Record Amount of Job Applications

Google has announced that it has received a record 75,000 job applications in little over a week after it announced plans to hire around 6,000 people over the coming year.

The search engine company beat its own record of 63,750, which was set back in May 2007 after a similar round of hirings.

The company has continued rapid expansion, hiring 4,500 last year and 6,300 in 2007. This latest batch of hirings only confirms that the company is continuing to cement its position as the largest search engine provider in the world.

Alan Eustace, SVP of engineering and research at Google, said in a blog post “[2011] will be our biggest hiring year in company history. We’re looking for top talent- across the board and around the globe – and we’ll hire as many smart, creative people as we can to tackle some of the toughest challenges in computer science.”
