How to Get Your Links to Display Correctly on Facebook

A common problem that you may have when you are posting external website links to your Facebook account is that the images are not being shown correctly on the post. This can be quite annoying for you and also very detrimental toward the click-through rate of your link. Another problem that you may have is that the information that displays about the link itself is appearing incorrect.

These problems can be solved through the use of a handy debugger tool that Facebook has developed. All you need to do is enter in the URL of the external website that you are having problems with and Facebook will display any problems that their crawler is having when reading the site’s meta data, etc.

If you find that when you have run the debugger, all of the information that has been returned is correct and the images from the URL have all been found then simply try and repost the link after the debugger tool has ran then it should be displayed correctly.

This can be solved fairly easily by adding these few lines of code to the head section of your HTML (replacing the text in italics with the relevant text):

<meta property=”og:title” content=”your title” /> <meta property=”og:description” content=”your description” /> <meta property=”og:image” content=”url of the image you want displayed” />

Once you have made this slight amendment then your link should now appear correctly. You can also avoid this happening in the future by remembering to include the Facebook Open Graph code in each of your webpages, blog posts, etc, in the future.
