#inthezone 13: Lifestyle changes

Lifestyle changes

This week has been an interesting one to say the least. With Ammaar’s one year Wow anniversary, exam periods for students, Martin Luther King Day and lifestyle changes being made in the office; it’s imperative you DO NOT miss out on #inthezone part 13!  We won’t keep you waiting for any longer let’s get started!Ammaar's one year anniversary

It was precisely one year ago today that we took on our young padawan Ammaar. Coming out of college with the results he didn’t aim for, he described himself as being “lost” with “no direction”. In today’s world, the harsh reality is that wondering around aimlessly leads to low productivity and that’s where you start to fall into a hole. However, he found us and we decided to take him on as an intern! Later that year, he earned his way into the company and was offered a job with a salary. Now he loves his job as a content writer and (in his own words) has said “I feel grateful for the opportunity I was given here at Wow. A year ago I didn’t really know what I was doing, what my strengths were and what I wanted to be. But now, here I am doing what I really enjoy; what I didn’t know I enjoyed until I was thrown into it! Thanks to an awesome team and here’s to another great year!”. Yes, the picture was his idea…Happy one year anniversary 😉

As mentioned above, there are ongoing January exams for University students (and all students for that matter). We wanted to give a brief message to all students during this stressful time. Everyone at Wow hopes you all else receive the grades you deserve. Just remember failing to prepare is preparing to fail. If you’re not prepared this time around, make sure it doesn’t happen again! We believe in you 🙂 We also wish the best to Matthew who is currently sitting exams too, we expect big things from you!

With the New Year still being quite topical, you know people are still on their “diets”. Some are staying strong whereas others are struggling. You should know that it’s perfectly okay to struggle, you can’t expect to be perfect from day one! However, for those trying to make healthier choices, we can offer you this piece of advice. Don’t think of it as a diet, more so a lifestyle choice. Diets are often associated with being short term, whereas making lifestyle changes sticks with you eternally. You’d be amazed at how much a thought is able to influence an outcome. At Wowzone we have several team members making better lifestyle choices, which we know will stick with them throughout their life. Whether it’s something as small as cutting down junk food to twice a month, or drinking more water daily; everyone has to start somewhere! We hope every single one of you is staying strong and sticking to your promises!

Following on from that, we believe the same should be done if you’d like to consider changing other aspects of your life. When improving different elements of your life, it’s important to view the whole picture. This includes analysing where you want to be and where you currently are! For example, if your goal is to wake up at 6 am on weekdays, it is something which should slowly be built up. Wake up at 7 am one month, then maybe 6:45 am the next month and so on. Slowly, all of these lifestyle changes will come together and, before you know it, you’ll be a completely new person! Some call this the principle of marginal gains. This principle focuses on three aspects for improvement:

  • Do the basics right.
  • Developing a strong and determined mindset.
  • Looking at all the areas which you can increase by 1%. Collectively they will make a huge difference!

The important thing to remember is that you keep moving forward, no matter how slow. In honour of MLK day that has just passed, our quote of the week is awarded to Dr Martin Luther King Jr:

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward” – Martin Luther King
