The law of reciprocity is one of the most powerful forces one can master in life and business, yet why is it many people fear it?
It’s because it relies on relinquishing control and ultimately believing in the concept of ‘what goes around comes around’.
Many people believe the law of reciprocity is nebulous but take it from me, it does work, and it can transform the way you do business. You see, most of us in life and business are programmed on a transactional basis, which involves money or returned favours; you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Now, don’t get me wrong, we all need to earn a living, make profits and ensure our overheads are met in business, such are the commercial realities we have chosen as business owners.
When people first hear about the law its met with fear or confusion because its not transactional based in the traditional sense. Its origin comes from the heart, and not the head.
The actual secret which makes the law work in your favour, is intent. You have to give without expecting anything in return. If you do this, good things will happen to you in the long run, including financial gain.
It was Zig Ziglar that once said “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”
Giving is a habit, so here’s my advice; everyday, do something good for a someone, without the intention of expecting anything in return. It may be in the form of advice, introductions to opportunities, support, guidance, charity work, or donating money to the less fortunate. Once it becomes second nature, the law of reciprocity, will give back to you in it droves.
